CENTER FOR CONFLICT RESOLUTION
MANY POINTS OF VIEW
competition submission2005

The Center for Conflict Resolution at George Mason University is entered from the north. A drive leads to a landscaped parking area set within an orchard. From the arrival court the campus is approached along a wide covered sidewalk leading to the main entry which connects the east and west buildings.

The west building contains faculty and staff offices, a large seminar, rest rooms and lounge with fireplace. Views to the reflecting pool, the bay and the upper site abound from all buildings. On the upper floors are additional offices, meeting rooms and special function spaces as required.

The east building contains the dining facility and private meeting suites on the upper floors. All buildings are designed in an atrium style with upper floors stepping back and looking down to the main level.

The south building contains the library. Upper floors accommodate private study suites or additional staff or special function spaces.

Running through and connecting the main buildings a continuous curving esplanade wraps around the reflecting pool and contains the guest suites and overnight accommodations.

Set near the center of the pool are two private meeting suites.

A very secluded enclave for intense work or negotiation is set well apart from the main campus upon the NorthEast high ground of the site.
